Garbage Truck On Fire Empties Load on Bellbird Road

Mt Eliza Fire Brigade attended a fire that started in a rubbish truck this morning (19/05/2017) on Bellbird Rd, Mount Eliza.

To properly extinguish the fire the driver was required to empty the contents of the truck onto the road.

There was an extensive clean up in the area for some time following, and drivers were urged to avoid the area.

Unfortunately, over ten vehicles attempted to drive around our traffic cones onto the closed road while fire fighters were working. This presents a serious safety risk to the public, and to crews who are engaged in dealing with the incident.

We don’t take the decision to close roads lightly and only do so when necessary for fire fighter and public safety.

We don’t like inconveniencing anyone, however, this is an important reminder to not drive through fire and emergency scenes. Even if you’re in a hurry to get where you’re going, we’d like to politely remind drivers that minor detours generally only take a couple of minutes.
