Mt Eliza sends truck and crew to assist with the Timbarra Fire
On Thursday 24th January, Mt Eliza Tanker with 4 of our Volunteer Firefighters joined other fire brigades to form Strike Team 0802 to assist at the Timbarra Fire located near Buchan. We joined 4 other strike teams to create a 30 vehicle task force.
The task force was sent in preparation for Friday’s weather event with predictive temperatures in the mid-40s including a total fire ban across the state and a Fire Danger Rating of Extreme in some areas. Mt Eliza’s strike team was tasked with protecting homes and other infrastructure in the town of Murrindal and liaising with the local community.
First Lieutenant Mark Turnham said:
All crews worked well together. It was very hot, however we were glad to be able to assist where needed and accomplish what we were tasked to do. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the Australia Day weekend – assisting others when and where needed.
