Bushfire in Maughan Road
On Wednesday 16th December at 3.55pm, the Brigade responded to a bush fire near Wooralla Drive and Maughan Road. On arrival, support from Baxter, Moorooduc and Mornington Fire Brigades was immediately requested.The fire, about 100m² in size took 90 minutes to control due to the complexity of reaching the seat of the fire. There was no threat to homes during the incident.
We would like to give a special thankyou to the member of the public who supplied 2 slabs of drinking water and a bag of ice to rehydrate the 30+ volunteer firefighters on scene. Six appliances were on scene for over 3 hours.
We wish to remind residents of Mount Eliza to be alert of potential fires that may occur during this fire season in or around Mount Eliza.
During the incident, we observed residents reach out on Facebook to receive information. We wish to stress that our Facebook page should not be your primary source of information during emergencies. In an emergency, information will be provided through Emergency Victoria, Fire Ready App and VBIL.
We would also like to advise that we are currently in the Fire Danger Period until 1st May 2016. This means that open air burning is not permitted on the Mornington Peninsula without a permit.
