Changes to Open Air Burning Off Laws for October 2016

Before Burning Off:  Please ensure you abide by the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council bylaws and current fire restrictions

Mornington Peninsula Shire will ease burn off restrictions on small properties throughout October 2016 to allow residents to burn off for fire prevention purposes.

For the month of October 2016 Open Air Burning is permitted only on Fridays and Saturdays between 9am and 4pm on land less than 1500 square metres provided that:

  • No more than 1 cubic metre of vegetation is burnt at any one time
  • The fire is not within 10 metres of any neighbouring dwelling
  • The General Fire Safety Provisions are followed at all times.

Open Air burning is otherwise prohibited on properties smaller than 1500 square metres.

For more information, please visit Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s website “Burn Off restrictions eased for month of October” and “Open Air Burning Laws

Changes are in effect in October 2016 only. Outside these periods, residents must comply with current Open Air Burning Laws.

Please also log your burn off by calling 1800 668 511 (to prevent unnecessary attendance by CFA or the Mornington Peninsula Shire Rangers).

I am on a 5 acre block in Red Hill South. Am I permitted to burn off old leaves, branches & tree stumps during November?
