Busy Start to 2017 for Mt Eliza Fire Brigade

We’re now into the second month of 2017 and wow, it has been a busy year already at Mt Eliza Fire Brigade. We’ve done a lot in the community so far, and we have plenty more events to come.

Mornington 100 Year Torchlight

A number of brigades across the Mornington Peninsula participated in a Torchlight Parade from Mornington Park to Mornington Pier to celebrate the brigade’s 100th year in service. It was a fantastic parade with large crowds and fireworks to top off the spectacular nigh.

Aussie Day Weekend Fundraiser BBQ

Once again, Bunnings Warehouse supported CFA and SES with an Aussie Day Weekend Fundraiser BBQ to show their appreciation to all emergency service volunteers for the work they do in their local communities. From the event hosted at Bunnings Mornington, a total of $2194.70 was raised from the event. In total, Bunnings raised over $126,000.

We would like to thank the community and Bunnings for their support. Funds raised will be used to purchase and maintain vital emergency equipment used by volunteers in our community.

Mount Eliza Fire Brigade members attend Nova FM to have a snag with Chrissie, Sam & Browny to help promote the event across Melbourne.

Australia Day Celebrations in Mount Eliza Village

Members from the Brigade attended the Australia Day Celebrations in the village and brought our brand new fire truck (which will be brought into commission this year) to show members of the community. It was a popular photo attraction with families taking photos with who could be future firefighters. Despite a little sprinkling of rain it was a fantastic day.

Telstra iPad Donation

The Brigade would like to thank Telstra for generously donating three iPads to us. The iPads will help us migrate away from a outdated, paper-based reporting system and they will greatly assist us as first responders during operational incidents.

Need for Feed Disaster Relief

The Brigade and the wider community supported the Need for Feed Disaster Relief Program for Gippsland Dairy Farmers. We collected non-perishable food items to help assist these farmers. We would like to thank the community for your wonderful generosity to farmers in need.

On 25th January, we were called to support Frankston for a Tree and scrub fire on Olivers Hill with additional support from Langwarrin Fire Brigade, Baxter Fire Brigade and air (helicopter) support. During this fire, we also responded to a House Fire at Mount Eliza along with support from Mornington and Moorooduc Fire Brigades.

On 18th January, members attended another house fire that destroyed a laundry. This fire was caused by a faulty refrigerator.
